Howdie!  My name is Willie and I hail from Oklahoma.  I somehow found my way up to the Humane Society in MN.  I got adopted but it didn’t work out well.  BBR brought me into rescue and got me checked out by the vet. I haven’t been feeling well and I must admit I was short-tempered.  Well the vet figured out that I had sores on my legs AND I had a tick disease.  I got some medications and I hope that will make me feel a lot better.  I do enjoy a good romp in the park, playing with toys and with my basset buddies!

Hello, my name is Misty!  I am being returned to BBR after a change in my household left my family unable to take care of me any longer.  I was just in time to be a guest at BBR’s biggest fundraiser of the year called Bassetfest.  I spent the day running up to different new friends, asking them to pet me.  It is very obvious that I just love people, and I like them to see how sweet and loving I am.  That is why I am looking for a home where someone is around most of the time.  I like to prance around, checking on my people all day.  I have spent time with my foster mom’s grandkids and I liked them too.  I get along with other dogs, but I don’t really care too much about playing with them.  I have lived with cats and have some in my foster home but I don’t really pay them much attention.  Oh, another thing I love is soft toys and squeaky toys!  But please keep the stuff I shouldn’t have picked up off the floor-it is hard sometimes to tell toys from human objects.  Other good stuff about me is that I enjoy walks (especially long ones!), I am good on a car ride, and I can handle stairs fine which can sometimes be a problem for older bassets.  I am used to being loose in the house when no one is home although it makes me a bit anxious to be alone, and I am potty trained, but accidents can happen to anyone.  The one thing my new owner does need to be aware of is that in typical basset fashion, I am very food motivated.  Don’t leave food out on a counter or table, I just can’t resist!!! I love food and treats, and become very fixated on anything mistakenly left unattended, so be careful not to leave anything out that might get me in trouble!  I also just had a dental cleaning and my teeth are in good shape for eating :)  My foster mom says I am very smart and adjusted quickly to life in my foster home.  I think that explains me pretty well, so if you are looking for a loving companion, I am certainly your gal.

Note from a dog sitter:  We had the pleasure of caring for Misty in our home for two weeks while her foster family was out of town.  She is a wonderful, sweet little dog.  Though not super active, she is much spunkier than her age and seems like a much younger dog.  She warmed up to my husband and I quickly, though needed a little more space to adjust to our 4 and 6 year old girls.  However, after a few days she was just as comfortable snuggling in their arms as ours.  She slept well at night, loved meal times and didn’t have any accidents-although a few nights she did go to the door to be let out for a potty break.  While she does enjoy dog toys, we had no issue with her and the kids toys or anything else that wasn’t hers.  She did no counter surfing and would lay quietly near us during meals but did not beg.  However, you cannot leave the table with food still on it and no people at it-she will try to get up there but you can’t really blame her for that.  She whined a lot in the first few days but that ended as she got comfortable.  She got along well with the 5 other dogs in our home, ranging from 15 lbs. to about 70 lbs.  She hates to have her people leave and would bark but not messes or destruction.  She loved to ride in the car to and from school or walk with us to the park.  She really enjoys sitting in the back seat of the car between the two girls, and sat quietly minding her own business even when they were finishing their left over lunches on the way home.  She is just a sweet little thing that would love a person or people to call her own and though she is not as young as some, she has more to give than most.

I’ve been hugged by Mocha, Mary & Jason!

Hello, my name is Hunter!  This is  my second stay with BBR.  My last family had several dogs, cats and kids.  I got along fine with the cats and great with the kids (ages 3-12).  In fact I used to sleep in bed with one of the kids at night.  But I wasn’t always getting along with the other dogs in the house, which is why I am in foster care again.  I am in a home now with one other male basset and we are getting along, probably because he is a more passive dog.  My foster mom thinks I should be with a passive dog or no dogs in my forever home.  I do not share toys and bones well, although strangely I am not aggressive with food or treats.  My foster brother actually will steal food from me if you can believe it!

My foster mom has me working hard already because I am what they call overweight.  I have already lost quite a few pounds since I got here, but the doctor says my ideal weight is somewhere around 35-45 pounds.  Foster mom has this terrible rule called “no table scraps” but apparently if I’m going to live a long healthy life, this is the way it must be.  Right now my nick name is “Tubby” because of my big body and small head, but I’m going to turn that into “Handsome” when I get trim again.  Getting regular exercise is helping me get there.  I also just got my teeth cleaned so my mouth is already handsome.

I have a loud bark which isn’t a surprise for a basset.  However, I can get barky some times when left alone, so I need a home where this isn’t going to bother anyone or my family is around most of the time.  Sometimes I like the car and its a nice place to snooze and other times I whine.  Baths and ear cleaning are ok, but I wore a muzzle when I got my nails trimmed at the vet.  Despite my size I do well on walks and get around fine.  I can’t really get on the bed, though that’s where I’d like to sleep if you don’t mind the snoring.  I’m looking for a family who wants to rub my tummy because tummy rubs are the best.  I also love to drink water like a camel.  Maybe I’m storing some in my extra fat rolls :) But don’t worry, I am fully housetrained.

I guess you could say I have plenty of quirks, but my foster mom says I am a good dog most of the time!

Hi,

My name is Patches and I used to live in the country. The problem is that I considered myself a herding dog and I liked to chase the horses and donkeys. My family thought this was too dangerous so I made the move to the city where there weren’t any big animals to herd. I get along with other dogs just fine, in fact, I am very respectful of the smaller dogs in my new foster family. I am a beautiful mature lady though I do have a tendency to check for goodies on the counter.
