Hi, I’m Spanky!

Guess what? I am part Basset Hound and part Jack Russell Terrier.  I am such a sweet guy and I get along well with other dogs and even cats.  I am a little shy at first but after a few minutes I will be your friend if you let me.  My family had to move and couldn’t take me with.  I am a well mannered gentleman and don’t make a fuss.  You can trust me  not to have accidents in the house!  I like to play tug-o-war with my foster brother too.

I went to see the vet man and he said my back knees are a little “loose”.  He called that luxating patellas.  I guess you can blame that on my Jack Russell side, it is more common in JRTs.  Since I am not showing any discomfort at present there is nothing that needs to be done.  Umm, well except I am supposed to loose a few pounds.  How is a guy supposed to do that during the holidays?

Hi, we are Buster and Mia!  We are a bonded pair that found ourselves in need of a home when our landlord changed the rules about allowing dogs.  We were also in need of medical care, so we were lucky to get into rescue.  We like adults, kids and other dogs, and especially each other.  We love to snuggle together and cry if we are apart.  We need to be adopted into a home together.

Hello, I’m Daisy Duke!

BBR invited me to join the group when my family suddenly had to move far away and couldn’t take me with them.  I must admit it was a shock at first but I am settling in well with my foster family.  I have a special fondness for the small dogs and cats in my foster family and quickly invited them to join me on my pillow.  We all like to snuggle together. If you have room in your home for a sweet, well mannered senior lady please ask to meet me!

Hello, I’m Zeke!  I am an easy going, gentle hound.  I have lived with a teenager and other dogs.  I came to BBR because my family had more dogs than they could care for.  Even though I am originally from Florida, I love to be outside and follow my nose.  I enjoy going on walks, snuggling with people and hanging out with other hounds.

Being Fostered in Wisconsin

Hello! My name is Peabody!  Here is a messege from my foster mom:

He is an active, curious boy who is trying really hard to understand this business of going potty outside… it’s very confusing to a pup who is used to getting all his needs met almost instantly. He has mastered going UP steps and is getting skilled at DOWN… down is pretty scary but he watches the big dogs and then sort of falls onto the next step. Any day now he will be a pro. He sleeps with me and is a wonderful little snuggler. Puppy teeth are another confusing thing… everything has to go in the mouth to be tasted and felt, including toes, ears, noses and fingers!! Peabody is a very intelligent boy and that’s good because he has lots to learn. He will need your love and patience and consistence to become a well-mannered young man by the next Bassetfest.

Unfortunately Peabody came to us with an injury to one of his eyeballs and the eye had to be removed to save his little life. The UW Vet School did a miraculous job in stabilizing him and caring for him during that critical time. He is better than ever now and will never know he has one less eye than all his friends. The only long term effects of his condition is that he will be confused with any local pirates!

While Puppies are adorable, they are also a lot of work.  They require time, training, and lot of vaccines in the first year.  If you are not ready for potty training, shoe chewing, or waking up at 3 a.m. because someone wants to play, please consider applying for an older dog.  Nothing beats the love of a pup, just remember, that love comes with serious requirements.
