When BBR was notified that a sweet young hound mix was “Out of Time” at a rural ND impound site, we had to make room for her.  Through the help of dedicated rescuers along the way, she made her way to the metro area of MN.

Her foster family says she is Awesome!  They felt the name Oddie suited her better because she is a bit of a nut (not a German car :) )

Oddie is a three year old basset hound lab mix but she identifies more as a Labrador. She looks like the shortest black lab you will ever meet and she could not be sweeter. Oddie is a people pleaser. She absolutely loves kids. Her foster family has a toddler who loves to hug and kiss her on the nose, and Oddie just sighs with happiness at the attention. Oddie is the most gentle dog and the best girl around. If she finds the toddler is getting too busy for her taste, she just walks away.

Oddie isn’t all the way trustworthy on going potty outside, especially if she is alone in the house. She does fine being in a confined space, like a kennel.  We think that she has never been fully housetrained and that with time she will catch on very well since she is a smart girl.

She is great with other dogs, unknown with cats but loves to chase squirrels. She rarely barks, unless a stranger is coming up the driveway or the doorbell rings.

She took about two weeks to trust us enough to not be velcro on our side, but now eats her meals without us coaxing her and stays outside without us needing to be out there. She makes herself comfortable on our bed at night and sleeps soundly.

Oddie likes to jump on people when they are ignoring her, we are trying to teach her that this is rude but most people keep petting her once she jumps so she keeps doing it. Oddie was in a pound in the middle of North Dakota, so we do not know her history. She has come a long way to find her perfect family. Is it you?

Oddie was in heat when she arrived at BBR.  She has now been spayed and is ready to find her forever home!

Hi,
My name is Sammy! I’m a young guy looking for a new home.  In my first home, I wasn’t exposed to a lot of a new things so I am pretty nervous when I meet new people. Now that I am in foster home with BBR, I am trying lots of new things and I think I am getting braver.  I like other dogs and I am crate trained.  I guess I could use a little training on the leash, and I must admit I LOVE to shop the counters. I also get very nervous at the vet so I guess I should wear a muzzle when I go there.  I think my good qualities shine above that though.  I am very handsome, even noble.  Don’t you think?  I get along well with my foster siblings and I even take treats gently.  The right family would help me learn to be a good boy, even when I am nervous, and in return I would shower them with kisses!

Being fostered in Minnesota.

With a sad heart BBR had to say goodbye to Shorty today (12/21/15). He beat heartworm disease but he could not beat a fast growing cancer in his spleen.  Shorty was much loved by all who met him.  Most of all he was loved by his foster family, Patty and Scott. RIP Shorty, you were a great hound.

This sweet gentleman came to BBR recently in great need of care. He was full of ticks and parasites.  Even worse, he tested positive for both heartworm and Lyme disease.  The ticks and parasites were quickly taken care of and he received important vaccinations.  He is being lovingly cared for by his foster home as he begins the treatment for heartworm and Lyme disease. Shorty needs dental treatment too but that will have to wait until he is heartworm free.  It is too dangerous for him to be anesthetized until he is clear of the HW infection.  He is a gentle soul, good with other dogs and cats.  He loves attention!

Dewey #2141-Adopted June 2015

Male Dewey 2
Age: 7 yrs.
Weight:

Being fostered in Wisconsin.

Hello, my name is Dewey.  I had one owner my whole life, but she got sick and was unable to care for me any longer.  I had a medical problem of my own as well.  I had something called glaucoma in one of my eyes and it was so bad that I could no longer see out of it.  Glaucoma hurts but since my eye was removed I feel much better.  Foster mom says I have adjusted to the change easily since I haven’t seen out of it in some time.  If you are unfamiliar with glaucoma, you should know there is a possibility I could get it in my other eye.  It is just a possibility, but if that happens I would need daily treatment and regular eye checks every few months.

Other than that I am a real sweet, easy going guy.  I have lived with cats and currently live with other basset hounds.  I am shy and gentle with people, including the kids I’ve met.  I warm up to a new situation after a few minutes and never show any kind of aggression. If you are looking for a nice, middle aged companion to add to your household, consider filling out an application for me, Dewey.

Introducing Virgil! This nice basset boy came to BBR when his former family realized that the combination of Virgil and a child with asthma was not a good situation.  Virgil is a very sweet, friendly basset hound. He is good with children and other dogs.  He is house-trained and enjoys going on his walks.
