Update:  Duke crossed the bridge 4/1/2016.  After declining in health, doctors recently discovered Duke’s heart was enlarged and he had fluid in his abdomen.  He began treatment but to no avail.  He passed on with foster mom Linda and friend Pat by his side.  BBR is grateful for these wonderful supporters and volunteers.  Rest in peace, Duke.

His health had been declining; he had been to the vet last Tuesday. Vet was very concerned about his well-being. Xrays were taken which revealed a greatly enlarged heart, as well as fluid in his abdomen. He was sent home with antibiotics and a diuretic but by Friday it was apparent that treatment wasn’t helping. Linda Martin and Pat Shine were with him while he passed on.

Hi, I’m Duke!  I was recently returned to BBR because my mom, a BBR volunteer, passed away.  I love other dogs, but can get skittish around small children.

In his former home Duke got along great with senior blind/deaf cocker spaniel, and played well with younger cocker.  He needs some work with walking on a leash.  No food aggression, can take food from him with no problem.  Used to a quiet lifestyle.  Afraid of loud noises, vacuum cleaner, mops, brooms, baby gates, thunder storms. Runs from cleaning equipment, gets clingy with bad weather, wants to be by you.
He’s a jolly and happy dog, sweet and affectionate, but can be needy at times. Loves to eat and loves his treats. Loves all people, loves company at the house. Gets excited when on a leash at home in yard when other dogs pass by. A strong handler would be a plus.

Bert is back with BBR through no fault of his own. He is still the same sweet goofy basset boy and hopes that this time he really will find his forever home!

Hi my name is Bert! You won’t meet a nicer basset than me. I am a gentle hound who loves attention and playing with other dogs.  My family loved me very much but could not give me the attention they thought I deserved so they called BBR. I am house trained, kennel trained and I love to go on walks.  I am kind of lapful but if you give me a chance I will do my best to fit into your lap and hopefully there will be room in your heart for me too.

Hello, my name is Buddy and I am a sweet gentleman who loves attention.  My face looks gray but multiple vets confirm that I am only about 6 years old.  I am good with other pets and people, and especially love kids.  I move very slow in the house but don’t let that fool you, I did get out of my foster Mom’s back yard (a gate got open) and the Community officer who picked me up said she never saw a Basset run so fast…LOL she also said once she was within calling distance I came right to her!  I came to Basset Buddies because a volunteer was able to pull me from a large shelter in Iowa so I would have a better chance of finding a new home.  I do have some early arthritis and I take a joint supplement, mostly for my hips, so I am not looking for a home with lots of stairs.  I am not in pain but over time arthritis would make it hard for me to get up and down.  I also have a deformity in the chest cavity but my doctor says this does not seem to cause me any harm.  You wouldn’t know I had any health concerns with the way I bounce when I’m excited!

Jesse-#2153- Adopted February 2016!

Age:  5 yrs.
Weight: 45 lbs.

Being fostered in Wisconsin.

Jesse came to Basset Buddies when her owner’s health declined and she was no longer able to care for Jesse.  Jesse went straight into a foster-to-adopt situation as an approved applicant on our wait list was a good match for her.  The foster family adopted her shortly after she arrived in their home.  She has found her forever family.

Hello, my name is Leroy and I have traveled a distance to get to my foster home with Basset Buddies.  My previous owner passed away and my other fur sibling and I went to a shelter in Alabama.  My buddy was adopted, but sadly I was not.  Luckily, some nice people saw how special I am and contacted BBR to see if I could get into foster care.  They also drove me to Wisconsin to make this possible for me.

In my new home I am getting along well with the 5 other dogs and 3 young girls who live here.  Those girls know how to behave properly with a senior dog which is important as I need to be treated gently.  I’m not saying I am a wimp, I can be plenty spunky and playful when I am excited.  But I also sleep a lot and have senior bones so it is important to treat me with care, like any pet.  I go with the flow around here very well.  Mom says it’s like I’ve always been here.  I don’t jump up on the furniture even though it is allowed, but I love a variety of comfy dog beds.  I like to eat but have a bit of weight to lose so I get my food monitored carefully.  I have been good in the bath and for ear cleaning but nails are another story so I only get one or two clipped at a time.

When I fist arrived some weeks back I snored like a jet plane, but it turns out I had an infection.  Since that has cleared up I am a rather quiet sleeper.  Because of the infection I have had to wait on a dental cleaning and to get some yucky lumps removed but I hear that will be happening this week.  I am also on medication for mild arthritis and though it is important for me to walk, I don’t go real far.  Mom and I are working on that.  I guess I have a bit of allergies too, which cause me to pick at my feet some.  We are working on that too but it isn’t all that bad.  I hear I will be foster of the month in March so there should be more information on the main page coming soon!  If you are looking for a nice snuggle buddy, fill out that adoption application so you can find out more and consider taking me home!
