Hi, my name is Vanilli!  I came in to Basset Buddies Rescue at just the right time because a nice man was looking for a dog to adopt, so I am his foster dog until I get the all clear to be adopted by him.

Hello, my name is Shooter!  I actually didn’t really know that was my name when I first came to BBR because I lived in a garage instead of a house and didn’t know a lot of things that house dogs know.  I’m smart though and now I know a lot of things.  I know my name, and what a couch and bed are, and how to play nice with other dogs, and I know I really like getting pet.  I am a good snuggle bug and I really like being by people.  I like kids too and live with three.  However, I can get grumpy when kids are wild around me or when other dogs bother me when I’m trying to sleep.

I am good in the bath tub and great when my nails are being trimmed or ears are being cleaned.  I don’t exactly get the whole leash thing yet and my zig zag walking style drives my foster mom crazy, but I’m trying.  I love food and have gained a few extra pounds that I needed.  I don’t counter surf but do try to see the food on the table at dinner time so I usually don’t get to be in the room for people meals.  I have bursts of energy but I love to sleep too, or sunbathe in the front window.  I am not very noisy but if I do get excited about something, I will keep barking until I get your attention.  I have had to learn to go potty OUTSIDE and I am about 90% there.  I’ve been good in the car.  I love sniffing around the yard.  Since coming to BBR I was neutered, micro chipped, vaccinated, and treated with antibiotic when my lymes test came back positive, but I am still looking forward to a dental cleaning in my near future.  I will also need another lyme check in 6 months, though I show no signs of infection and my urine and blood tests were all good.

Darla #2238

Age:  3 yrs (D.O.B.  est. 2012)
Weight: 45 lbs

Being fostered in Minnesota.

Hi! My name is Darla.  I am a beautiful young lady basset mix but I have lots of worries. I find myself looking for a home for the 3rd time in my short life.  I hope the 3rd time really is a charm!  I came up from the southern US to the humane society.  I was adopted for a while but my family felt they could not give me enough time and they did not know how to get me over my fears.  I am afraid of new people at first, but if you give me a time I will build trust.  I am absolutely terrified at the vet. I am looking for a family that will give me lots of exercise, love and training to help me get over my fears.  I get along fine with most other dogs and even cats.  I am crate trained and housetrained.
Darla is considered special needs due to her fearfulness. While Darla generally gets along with the dogs in her foster home, we have found that she can be bossy with new dogs. She would likely do best as an only dog or possibly with another very confident, easy going dog. While she has met some children, we feel she would do best in a home without children because some children might not listen to rules about how and when to touch Darla.

Dozer #2236 Adopted 4/25/15!

Age:  about 6 months   (DOB est Oct or Nov 2014)
Weight: 35 lbs

Being fostered in Minnesota.

Hi, my name is Dozer!  I’m just a pup and my life has been quite a whirlwind until now. I am so happy to be with BBR so I can find my forever home.  I am a sweet and easy going guy who loves to play with my dog friends and snuggle with my human friends.  I didn’t know much about living in a house before I came to BBR but I am catching on fast.  Doorways and stairs were pretty scary to me at first, but now I get around just fine.  My forever home needs to have an active dog buddy for me to play with and a fenced in yard (I love to be outside.)  I have met a cat and they seem OK. My foster family says I am doing really well with the house training thing and hardly ever have an accident.  There have been lots of guesses about my heritage but we think I am Basset Hound and Golden Retriever, and maybe a little bit of Sharpei because I have cute forehead wrinkles and one black spot on tongue!  I am long and low and have a solid build.  The vet thinks I may weigh 50-60 lbs by the time I am all grown up.
