Bob and Bev Vogt adopted Lexi. She was fostered by Marty and Mike Needham in IL who share a letter they received on how Lexi is doing in her new home.
“Dear Marty and husband, I guess Bob told you how wonderful Lexi has worked out. She’s turned out to be even a better dog than Hunter was. We call her our Angel. We love her so much. She minds us so well.
She is my dog when she is scared. Last time we were at Black River Falls, at 12:30 at night, I woke up to her sitting on my head with 2 big long ears hanging down my face. Felt just like Hunter. He did that when we had a thunderstorm. Down the hill from us, at the tavern, they were lighting fireworks.
She follows me wherever I go up North. We sit on the deck together a lot. She likes to sleep on the bed but she knows I won’t let her. She starts out on her bed at the foot of the bed on the floor but by morning she has gotten up on the end on the outside next to Bob. She knows he will let her.
She has got everything figured out. Soon as she eats her breakfast she comes between us and watches Bob. When he’s done she starts talking to him. She gets to go for a walk then. He loves to tease her. He keeps asking her ‘what?’ and she’ll talk louder and louder till she barks.
She comes to the kitchen with me at meal time. When it gets to smell good she goes in the livingroom and talks to Bob. Wants him to come to the kitchen so she can get fed. At 9pm she knows its time for her walk again. We have so much fun with her.
We talk to her like a person and she understands us. We have a rope for her in front so she can walk in the yard and can get up to the front sidewalk. She watches for people to come. When they are a block away yet her whole backend just flies back and forth. Some people don’t pet her and she can’t figure that out. She just loves everybody. She is a watch dog in a new way. If her tail and back legs are dancing you know someone is coming.
She trusts us for anything. We had her teeth done at the vet and we put something on her teeth now so she doesn’t get plaque and she just stands and lets Bob do it. We are going to start brushing her teeth. If we give her chew treats she hides them and pushes them around until her nose bleeds. Rubs the skin off. She keeps changing the hiding places until we have to take it. Pig ears are the only things she eats right away and big milkbones (in a box).
I hope you enjoy the pictures. Shot a whole role of film the first time we took her to Rock River Falls. We sure do enjoy her.
We were happy with everyone at Basset Buddies and gave your online name to lots of people already. After they know Lexi, they ask for it.
Well, Lexi just let me know it is time to make supper so, I better get going. She is talking, its early but she don’t think so.
Thank you,
Bob, Bev and Lexi Vogt”
Thank you Bob and Bev for giving the Needhams an update on how Lexi is doing. She sounds like she is fitting in just fine and enjoying her new life and family! Thank you for giving her this new start.
