If you are located outside of our service area, please check the rescue list on the Daily Drool, a wonderful website dedicated to basset hounds. Locate your state in the left hand column to find the rescue group in your area.
Also, the bassethoundrescue.com site is another helpful resource. Click on ‘Rescue Groups’ in the left column and you will be taken to a page that allows you to click on your state. If there is no rescue group in your area, be sure to check your surrounding states. Better yet – maybe you would consider starting a rescue group in your state?
Please consider your decision very carefully. Adopting a pet is a choice that affects an entire family. You and your family members need to be willing to make a lifelong commitment to your new hound. Talk it over with everyone in your family and make sure that they’re all prepared for a new pet. A surprise pet does not make a good gift.
Remember, a pet that you are might want to make a part of your family – whether it is from an animal shelter or from a rescue organization – is no longer in the place that he/she called home. They are in strange surroundings where everything is different: where they eat or sleep and even the people they live with. The transition period from a strange place to home may be a very stressful time for both of you. some animals will adjust very quickly. For others, it might take as long as 4 to 6 weeks to adjust to their new surroundings.
