Exposure to children? Yes
What ages were the children? 11, 9, 6 yrs of age
Describe the dog’s reaction to children: He is exceptionally great with the kids. My children will snuggle right up to him on the floor and practically sleep on top of him and he loves it. He is not nervous around them at all nor does he get tired of following them all around the house.
Good with other dogs? Yes
Comments about behavior with other dogs: We have a 2 yr old basset hound and he does great with her. If he is not sleeping, he loves to chase her around and play. We have a dog park in our area and he is very sociable with the other dogs and their owners.
Good with cats? Yes
Comments about behavior with cats: For the most part Dozer is not really interested in the cats. When he does spot them he may chase them a little because he wants to play with them. I don’t think he understands the difference in his size compared to the cats.
Good with birds, parrots, etc: Unknown
Comments about behavior with birds: Unknown
Good with other pets: Unknown
List type of pets, and comments about behavior with other pets: He has only been exposed to cats and dogs.
Can climb stairs? Yes
Comments about stairs: He can go up and down stairs really well.
Pulls on a leash? Yes
Comments about pulling on a leash: He tugs a tiny bit on the leash, but I am sure with the proper discipline he would stop. For the most part he tends to stay close to whomever is walking him unless he smells something good.
Food aggressive? No
Comments about food aggressiveness: No food aggression at all. Very easy going temperament.
Has allergies? Unknown
List allergies and any related comments: None that we are aware of
Type of family life? Doesn’t care
Comments about family life: Dozer can be that active dog if we are outside at the dog park or on a walk, but he can also be the dog that will cuddle on the couch with you if you are laying down. I think if it was up to him, though, he would just love to sleep on the bed all day long and chew on an occasional stuffed toy.
List anything the dog is afraid of: Dozer doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything in particular. He does get upset when left alone, though. He will howl in his kennel for a few minutes after everyone leaves, but will eventually calm down and lay in his kennel. Overall, though, he has not damaged anything or escaped the kennel because of his anxiety of being alone.
Tell us about your foster basset: Dozer is a really great dog! He adapted to our lifestyle within a couple of hours and has been great ever since. He likes rawhides and stuffed animals. He loves to sleep on the couch and beds, but we have noticed he likes to drool a little when sleeping. He loves new people and “his” people and follows them everywhere with his tail wagging constantly. He is just a big sweetheart that couldn’t hurt a fly.
