Good with other dogs?

Yes

Comments about behavior with other dogs

Thomas loves other dogs. He seeks them out and dances around trying to get them to play. Whatever they are doing, he has to get in on the act.

Good with cats?

Yes

Comments about behavior with cats

No chasing at all; he does sniff or nuzzle them on occasion, or simply leaves them alone.

Good with birds, parrots, etc.

Unknown

Comments about behavior with birds

While we have birds, they are kept separate and he never gets to go near them.

Good with other pets

Yes

List type of pets, and comments about behavior with other pets

He shows occasional interest in our guinea pig, but never attempts to get at him.

Can climb stairs?

Yes

Comments about stairs

His previous owner said he had trouble with stairs; we have not noticed any difficulties here. I believe that the stairs in his old home were uncarpeted. The carpeting seems to make a difference.

Pulls on a leash?

Yes

Comments about pulling on a leash

He gets excited when outdoors, and apparently had no training as to leash behavior. He would love to run unleashed, not an option here, as we are not fenced!

Food aggressive?

No

Comments about food aggressiveness

He takes treats very gently, with no teeth involved. Will allow his dish to be moved with no reaction.

Has allergies?

Unknown

Type of family life?

Quiet

Comments about family life

I only think “quiet” because he is a little older.

List anything the dog is afraid of

Previous owner mentioned fear of vacuum; he seems to have gotten over that – here he even comes up to see what the noise is about.

Tell us about your foster basset

Thomas is a sweet, affectionate dog. He loves to be where you are (as I write this he is laying on my feet under the desk.) I believe he would make a wonderful addition to an all-adult home. He rides beautifully in the car, is a good boy at the vet, and has incredibly velvety ears. He absolutely does NOT like to have his nails cut, but other than that, he is a delightful companion. Please think about adopting him! No, do more than think…make Thomas an offer – he is waiting patiently for his new forever home!
