Male
Age: 5 yrs
Weight: 65 lbs.
Being fostered in Minnesota
Exposure to children? Yes
What ages were the children? Toddlers and up
Describe the dog’s reaction to children: Koda loves children. He will sit or lay down to be petted. He should be watched around small children because he could knock them over despite his weight being down to 65 pounds.
Good with other dogs? Yes
Comments about behavior with other dogs: Koda loves every dog he meets. He is submissive and will respect whatever the other dog wants. He loves playing wrestle mania with his siblings and also enjoys the basset 500. Koda would be lonely as an only dog. He needs siblings to show him the ropes.
Good with cats? Unknown
Good with birds, parrots, etc: Unknown
Good with other pets: Yes
List type of pets, and comments about behavior with other pets: Koda loves to play with the other 2 bassets in his foster home. They are all around the same age. When he first met them, he was timid and would hide around the corner. Now is he accepted as part of the pack and loves to play, play and play!
Can climb stairs? Yes
Comments about stairs: Koda climbs stairs with leaps and bounds!
Pulls on a leash? Yes
Comments about pulling on a leash: Like any basset, Koda will pull when he is on a scent. But, he is controllable with direction. He is usually walked together with his siblings, so the 3 together trade off being in front. When I walk him alone, he does not pull.
Food aggressive? No
Comments about food aggressiveness: Koda loves his food! I have worked with him to sit and stay before he is invited to his bowl. He is also a great “counter-surfer”. If you leave food on the counter he WILL get it. His motto is: “If it’s there, it’s mine!”
Has allergies? Yes
List allergies and any related comments: Koda’s allergies are still being explored. He came from a shelter with ear and eye infections. They are all healed now after medication. He is on a limited ingredient diet and Benadryl once a day.
Type of family life? Active
Comments about family life: Koda is walked twice a day, 1-2 miles each time. He would make a great jogging partner if you don’t mind stopping once in a while to “smell the roses”. In between walks he enjoys playing with squeaky toys, wrestling with his siblings and doing a couple rounds of the basset 500. Otherwise he takes many naps throughout the day. He sleeps through the night in his crate that he loves. Koda is house-trained and has never had an accident. He loves baths and getting his ears cleaned and nails clipped. Koda also loves riding in cars in the back seat. You will hear him snoring soon after you leave the driveway.
List anything the dog is afraid of: Koda is really not afraid of anything. He has been exposed to vacuums, brooms and thunderstorms with no reactions.
Tell us about your foster basset: Hi! Koda here! Let me tell you more about myself. First off, my foster mom calls me Kody, for short. She says I am like a toddler in a basset body. I would like a home with people that like to go on walks, and give ear and belly rubs. I would also like a brother or sister to play with and show me around. I can do a lot of things like, “sit, stay, go in my crate and shake”. I am looking for a family that has a big heart because I have a lot of love to give!
