Being fostered in Wisconsin
Basset / Beagle mix (“Bagle”)
Ally is a 12 year old Bagle. She was relinquished to BBR when her former family brought her to be euthanized for chronic peeing in the house. Her medical workup had been fine, so she entered foster boot camp with the hope that it was a behavioral issue. Sure enough – after the first 2 days, we haven’t had any trouble whatsoever – and also discovered it was likely the soiling was being triggered by the new puppy in her home.
She prefers human companionship, but Ally does get along with the other dogs, cats, and birds with no difficulty. When we are home, she likes to keep us in sight, and tends to show a slight preference to women over men. She eats well and takes treats gently. She is not a counter cruiser or a garbage digger, but she does chase squirrels, chipmunks, and her tennis ball.
She does not climb on furniture, and sleeps on a doggie bed at the side of the human bed. She is protective of the yard and barks at passersby, but shows no aggression to company – she is good with both adults and children, however is reserved with strangers.
She sleeps through the night, and she eats well. Her eyesight and hearing both appear to be quite keen. She does receive supplements for her joints, as well as herbals for calming (these really have helped her relax and settle in). She is confined to a single room for about 7 hours/day while we are gone. She has not been crated.
Ally is an all around good natured gal, with plenty of zip left. She thrives on structure and does best with a predictable routine. We are glad she was given a second chance. She is an easy dog to care for. Any adoptive home will need to be her final move. Otherwise, to those who are concerned, rest assured she will be loved here for as long as needed.
